Raw Sacramento News Newsletter to Raw Sacramento Thursday, November 28, 2002 * * Holiday Potluck This Sunday 4pm Downtown Sacramento **
Very best Thanksgiving greetings to Raw Sacramento from Mark Blackburn.
As I write this it is Thursday November 28 and my 49th Birthday. The whole country will be giving thanks!
I am aboard my boat in Daytona Beach, FL. I hope to make it to Miami by Friday. I left Toronto about 3 weeks ago, and this has definitely been the vacation and cruise of my life. I have seen so many beautiful places and enjoyed so many small towns, and meeting so many kind people.
One of the highlights was the 3 times I ate at New York's 'Quintessence' Raw Restaurant. The food was absolutely delicious and about 1/3 the price of Roxanne's. They have a very winning formula in NYC with 3 Quintessences and plans for a 4th in the Bronx very soon. Sandi Rizzo of the Reno Raw Group took me on a tour of Manhattan & took me to Quintessence.
I have had a remarkable trip. Sadly, I will need to remain in Miami longer than originally scheduled, so I will be unable to attend this Sunday's Potluck. However, the scheduled Holiday Potluck for this Sunday will occur as announced, except it will be downstairs (Apartment 1) rather than in my apartment (Apartment 3). This is our annual Holiday Dessert Potluck. (You are welcome to bring any type of dish, but there will be special appreciation for desserts). -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Location for Potluck: 1315 F Street Apartment 1
Time & Date: Sunday, December 1 4pm
Theme: Holiday Dessert Potluck
Host: Christian Blackburn 224-7035 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Very Best regards,
Mark Blackburn aboard the 'Canistel'

A Recipe:
Here is a recipe submitted graciously by Jay Soduski one of our members. This was a real hit at our November Potluck. Thanks, Jay! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Jay's Hippy Sea Pasta"
Ingredients: ****1-2 Handfuls of Fresh sun-dried raw "Sea Palm" (a type of Pacific coast seaweed) **1/4 - 1/3 cup of Fresh raw shelled hemp seeds. **1 pint Fresh Del Cabo "Sweet 100's" mini-cherry tomatoes. **3 tablespoons of "Italian" Spice OR Oregano. *1/4 cup Raw Apple Cider Vinegar
Soak 1-2 handfuls of fresh dried "Sea Palm" in a glass bowl of purified water for @ least 30 minutes. (Better if left to soak overnight)
Drain off the water, and marinate the "Sea Palm" in glass bowl with 1/4 cup of raw apple cider vinegar for approx. 15-20 minutes. Drain off almost all of the vinegar from the sea palm, but still leaving the sea palm moist with the vinegar.
Sprinkle the hemp seeds generously (think of it as "mock parmesan cheese") atop the sea palm. Fold in extra hemp seeds so the hemp seed stick to the moist sea palm.
Dress the sea palm/hemp seed mixture with "Sweet 100" tiny red tomatoes; Toss the pasta, then cover with a nice blanket of the "Italian Spice" or Oregano seasoning
READY TO EAT!
Best if added as a condiment atop a green salad, and not eaten in large quantities alone or could clog your digestive system!; To Store: Refrigerate in an air-tight container & eat within 4-5 days.
