Raw Sacramento
Steering Committee
Meeting Agenda
for meeting of
09/30/2003
Advisory: Mark Blackburn will be unable to attend.
Appointment of Temporary Duties: Please appoint and
formally declare appointments to the following positions on the Committee:
Secretary :& Treasurer. (Secretary will take careful meeting notes &
forward these to the webmaster (currently Mark)). Treasurer will keep our
funds and record expenditures & income.
Drawing for Dehydrator: Please issue a report to
the committee and send a written (email) summary to Mark for posting.
Potluck Locations & Dates: We need potluck
locations for November and December of 2003. Indoor is required.
Mark can send out an appeal to the entire membership. Also: for 3
years we have held our potlucks on the 1st Sunday. In 2003 we had to
adjust this during 3 months to compensate for various 3-day holidays. One
reason we went with the 1st Sunday was that the Sac. Veg. Society held their
potluck on the 3rd Sunday of the month. While there is minimal cross-over,
it might be good to avoid the 3rd Sunday. I would suggest we review the
2004 calendar for vacation weekend conflicts for 1st, 2nd, and 4th Sundays and
consider a switch from the 1st Sunday if it seems justified. A word about
locations: we've had a lot of discussion about this. One thing is
clear: we seem to prefer outdoor locations such as McKinley Park in the
warmer months. Winter requires indoor locations. We've made some
forays into a regular fixed location, although meeting at different member's
homes throughout the winter also works pretty well. Several very good
locations (if they are agreeable) for this include: Roberta & Paul's, The
Walters' home, Dr. Susan Wang's, Marlowe's Apartment rec center, Gordon &
Gladys', and possibly Juleen's (we'll know soon enough). Imposing
only once per season on each of these locations would pretty near carry us
through the Spring of 2004. Or, we retain the option to a fixed location.
There are benefits either way. But, planning and posting of 2004 events
should begin soon.
Advertising on Web Site: In our last meeting Larry
Walters was assigned a task of beginning to develop a simple policy for
cooperating with local raw-food vendors. The policy would set forth a
guideline for how we would cooperate with local raw food businesses.
Naturally it is good for both parties to be aware of each other, and promote
each other. Perhaps Larry can explain where this process is currently.
Do we want speakers at Potlucks? In our early
years we would have a speaker after the potlucks. (These usually lasted
about 30 minutes). Other groups do this commonly (Such as the East Bay
Potlucks held in Alameda). It would result in a little more planning &
coordination effort. Currently I have 2 individuals who might come
speak: Dr. Ruza Bogdonavich of New Zealand & Reno, and another woman
from Reno who would like to talk about the health benefits of cedar spas.
Dr. B might be able to come to our Oct, Nov, or Dec Potlucks. (Although
our Dec potluck has by tradition been a holiday dessert potluck held at Mark's
apartment). We need a location for this one!
Mark's Status: Mark's current plans call for his
leaving Sacramento by November 20. This underscores his need to get with
Larry ASAP for Web Site training and handoff. (Larry, now that my fast is
over, we should set up perhaps 3 training sessions over the next month).
